No Barriers: Kiersten Duke

For our second episode on No Barriers, Sky Racing's Kiersten Duke joined us to talk about her career so far.

Kiersten didn't grow up in an equestrian family but for as long as she can remember she has always loved horses. Shortly after leaving school Kiersten completed both the British Racing School and National Stud course before working for the likes of John Berry and Chris Waller.

Kiersten's experience has always been hands on with the horses but after taking up a short term role as Joseph Pride's assistant racing manager, Kiersten felt she had the confidence to pursue other avenues within the industry. In 2018 she joined Sky Racing as a presentation coordinator before being granted a position on the Sky Racing Academy.

Kiersten had no previous media training but was eager to expand her knowledge and learn new skills to further her career within the industry. Fast forward to 2022 Kiersten is now a presenter for Sky Racing and is thriving behind the camera. Kiersten talks us through finding her feet in the industry and the trials and tribulations of embarking on a new career. For me this chat was very honest and thoroughly enjoyable. Her determination for learning a new craft is both motivating and inspiring.

Kiersten didn't come from a racing family or even an equestrian family but that hasn't stopped her finding a career within the thoroughbred industry. She talks highly of the professional role models within the industry and encourages link minded people to reach out and ask for advice.

Kiersten believes if you love horses or you have a passion for sport then there are opportunities here for you in the thoroughbred industry.
